Monroe, OH – Tonya Beachy Killed in Semi-Truck Crash on I-70

Monroe, OH (August 27, 2020) – Two people were reportedly killed following a multi-vehicle accident involving two semi-trucks in Monroe on Thursday, August 20. 

According to reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred that evening on Interstate 70 at around 6:40 p.m. Two semi-trucks and a pickup were traveling in the left lane of the highway while a sport-utility vehicle was traveling in the right lane. 

While the vehicles were approaching a construction area, three began to slow down. One of the semi-trucks rear-ended the pickup, causing a chain-reaction collision involving the other vehicles. 

A passenger in the pickup truck, 25-year-old Tonya Beachy of Homeworth, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics. Another occupant of the pickup was taken to a nearby medical facility and later succumbed to their injuries. 

The driver of the pickup, Erik Beachy, and both truck drivers, 49-year-old James Gobble and 60-year-old Dorcella Washington, sustained injuries in the crash. The driver of the SUV was uninjured. 

An ongoing investigation into the accident is currently in progress.
