Bicycle Accidents in Ohio
Each year, bicycle crashes are involved in nearly 2% of reported collisions across the country. Since 1975, the fatality rate for riders in their 20s has nearly tripled. In 2018, a total of 854 cyclists were killed in accidents in the United States, a nearly 7% increase from the previous year with 800 cyclist fatalities. The vast majority of fatal bicycle accidents involved riders over the age of 20, accounting for nearly 87% of bicycle fatalities in 2018.
Cyclists are at a serious disadvantage when involved in a crash with a motor vehicle and are more likely to suffer from life-threatening injuries. Unlike those traveling in passenger cars, bicycle riders have little protection from the full impact of an accident, and the resulting injuries can be life-changing. Drivers are required to yield the right of way and share the road with cyclists. An Ohio bicycle injury lawyer can help recover financial compensation for your injuries after being hit by a negligent driver.
