Pleasant, OH – Matthew Dildine & Melissa Dingess Killed in Crash on US-23

Pleasant, OH (July 21, 2020) – A fatal crash resulted in two deaths on Thursday, July 16. According to local sources, the crash took place outside of Pleasant Township on US-23 near milepost seven. Emergency responders and officials from the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) responded to the scene at around 4:10 p.m. that afternoon. 

According to initial reports, 26-year-old Joshua S. Dingess was traveling southbound on the highway when he lost control of the vehicle, and the car traveled off the roadway near Pleasant Township. The 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier struck a tree before overturning into a nearby ditch. 

According to local reports, two occupants inside the vehicle were killed in the crash. It was confirmed that 42-year-old Matthew E. Dildine was trapped inside the car following the crash. Another occupant, 26-year-old Melissa Dingess, was ejected from the car during the impact. Melissa Dingess was transported by ambulance to Marion General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead by attending medical staff. Dildine was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Coroner’s office. 

The driver of the vehicle was first taken to Marion General Hospital and then transported to Grant Medical Center for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. According to initial reports, neither Joshua nor Melissa Dingess was wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. 

No further updates on the crash are currently available. An ongoing investigation into the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
