Union, OH – Alan Mello Killed, Woman Injured in Crash on OH-38
Union, OH (July 29, 2020) – A man was killed and a woman critically injured following a single-vehicle accident near Union Township. The accident occurred Sunday evening, July 26, on a rural road in Union County. According to local reports, the crash occurred near the intersection of OH-38 and Middleburg-Plain City Road. Emergency responders and local law enforcement officials were called to the scene of the crash at around 6 p.m.
Initial reports revealed that a 2005 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Middleburg-Plain City Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Honda left the roadway and collided with a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn and catch fire. 32-year-old Alan J. Mello was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by responding paramedics.
A female victim was critically injured and airlifted to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where she was reportedly still in critical condition. At this time, state troopers have not yet released who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. Neither of the victims were restrained at the time of the crash.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the cause of the crash. No further updates are currently available.
